Antique Famed Actress ELLEN TERRY Photo Postcard Dec 25, 1903 Great Penmanship
Up for sale is
an antique postcard with a photo of famed British stage actress Ellen Terry (1847-1928). The photo is marked “copyright S. Hildesheimer & Co. Ltd London & Manchester.” And the photo is by Lafayette. It was written on Christmas Eve 1903 from Gladys Pinkham and address is “Miss Russell”. Ms. Pinkham has great penmanship. I Googled and Miss Russell is Maudie Russell. The Elfordleigh is a lovely, historical hotel and there are several nice antique postcards for sale on the internet addressed to Miss Maudie Russell at the Elfordleigh over the years. My guess is she worked there and made a lot of friends. The postcard is 5.25″ X 3.5″ and is in very nice condition. It’s postmarked on Christmas Day, December 25, 1903. I don’t think our post offices today are open postmarking letters and cards on actual Christmas Day. This is in very nice condition.
